Bighorn Sheep Festival

Bighorn Sheep Festival
Bighorn HeadThe 2008 Moab Bighorn Sheep Watch will be held on November 14-15.  This is a free event and no registration is necessary.  The weekend will be sponsored by the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR).  The event will start on the evening of November 14th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Moab Information Center Auditorium.  Bill Bates, DWR Regional Supervisor for Southeastern Utah, will be presenting a PowerPoint presentation on bighorn sheep ecology and history, along with a display of Eweskulls and horns from this majestic animal.
On November 15th, participants will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Moab Information Center, where they will split into groups and set out in search of bighorn sheep.  Participants are advised to bring binoculars, a spotting scope, and a camera, along with snacks, and beverages of their choice.  You are welcome to bring your own vehicle, although the DWR will have 4WD passenger vehicles for those who wish to carpool.
The bighorn sheep are in the rut at this time of year, which will make this an ideal weekend for sightings.  The rams are seeking ewes for breeding and engaging other rams in head butting for showmanship.  Remember, no pre-registration is necessary, nor is there any cost associated with this event.  For more information visit the DWR website at http://wildlife.utah.gov/calendar/index.php?m=11&y=2008
