The History of an Important Area
Posted By: William & Esther W Gorman Jr
This is very readable scholarly book with great 4-color photos. The book commits to writing many oral histories and the product can certainly be called "definitive." The author lives within sight of Comb Ridge (Blanding, Utah) and obviously knows his subject.
My personal favorite section of the book is the people history which I found fascinating. The original white settlers in the area are those Mormons who came through "The Hole in the Rock." The Native Americans have, of course, played a big part in the history of the area.
The photographs are well done but for the most part are not identified with a specific location so that the reader can visit and see for himself. More maps would help with more detail to enhance the various sections. Also, the index is incomplete. Despite these minor failings, this book will be a reference for those wishing to explore the area further.
